Kane fires Bayern Munich nine points clear with brace against Frankfurt

Bayern Munich

Quick Read

The Bavarian giants took control early at the Allianz Arena, with Aleksandar Pavlović opening the scoring in the 16th minute after firing a volley from outside the box that slipped past Frankfurt goalkeeper Kaua Santos.

England captain Harry Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 to move nine points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table on Saturday.

The Bavarian giants took control early at the Allianz Arena, with Aleksandar Pavlović opening the scoring in the 16th minute after firing a volley from outside the box that slipped past Frankfurt goalkeeper Kaua Santos.

Kane doubled Bayern’s lead four minutes later, heading home from close range to give the hosts a comfortable 2-0 advantage at half-time.

The striker grabbed his second of the match in the 68th minute, bending a low strike past Santos from the edge of the area to make it 3-0 and register his 28th Bundesliga goal of the season.

However, Bayern Munich’s afternoon took a twist after Kane conceded a penalty for a foul on Oscar Hojlund inside the box. Jonathan Burkardt converted from the spot in the 77th minute to reduce the deficit.

Frankfurt pulled another goal back four minutes from time when Arnaud Kalimuendo capitalised on a defensive lapse, as Kim Min-jae’s attempted clearance bounced off him into the net.

Despite the late scare, Bayern held on to secure all three points and extend their lead over second-placed Borussia Dortmund, who are set to face RB Leipzig later on Saturday.

Prior to the match, Kane was honoured with a special poster marking his 500 career goals for club and country, achieved last weekend against Werder Bremen.
