Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Njoku has advised women to prioritise self-love and take responsibility for their own happiness instead of depending on others for emotional fulfillment.
The actress shared the message in a post on her Instagram page, where she emphasised that relying on other people for happiness often leads to disappointment.
According to her, individuals who constantly put others first may end up neglecting themselves.
“Stop outsourcing your happiness! Love yourself. Never put the responsibility for your happiness on someone else; you will always come last if you put them first,” she wrote.
Mary also addressed mothers, urging them to care for themselves while caring for their children. She noted that taking breaks, resting and occasionally being “selfish” are necessary for personal well-being.
“If you’re a mother, love your children, but love yourself too. It’s okay to take a break. It’s okay to rest. It’s okay to be a little selfish sometimes,” she added.
The actress further reflected on the brevity of life, stressing that people should value their own well-being because others will eventually move on regardless of how indispensable they may appear.
“Life is short. You don’t know when it will end. One day, you could be gone. And you will be remembered for…, if you are remembered at all. The people you think can’t live without you? They will go on. Some may even live better without you. Love yourself. Life is too short not to,” she said.
