Vote-Buying Scandal: EFCC arrests 20, recovers millions in FCT Council elections

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 20 suspects for alleged electoral offences in the recently concluded local government elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The arrests, carried out on Saturday, involved offences ranging from vote buying and selling to obstruction of election officers, involving a total of N17,218,700.

One of the suspects was apprehended with N13.5 million in a car parked beside a polling station in the Kwali Local Government Area. Other arrests were made across the territory, including two in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje, and four in Kwali.

The EFCC has confirmed that the suspects will be charged to court following the conclusion of investigations.

This development comes amid heightened scrutiny of the FCT local government elections, reflecting the commission’s commitment to ensuring transparency and integrity in the electoral process.
