Dust haze to sweep North as rains hit Southern Slstates – NiMet

NiMet advised residents, especially people with asthma and other breathing problems, to be careful because dust particles are in the air across the northern, North Central and some southern inland states.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted three days of dust haze and cloudy weather across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.

In its weather report released in Abuja on Sunday, NiMet said northern states will experience slight dust haze throughout Monday.

However, states like Borno and Yobe are expected to have moderate dust haze, with visibility between 2 and 5 kilometres.

For the North Central region, slight dust haze is expected during the same period.

In the southern part of the country, NiMet said the weather will be mostly cloudy with some sunshine.

There are small chances of morning thunderstorms in parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom. Later in the day, thunderstorms with light rain may occur in parts of Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers and Delta.

On Tuesday, moderate dust haze with visibility between 2 and 5 kilometres is expected across the northern region.

The North Central region will continue to experience slight dust haze. Southern states will remain cloudy with intervals of sunshine and possible morning thunderstorms in parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River.

Light rains and thunderstorms may also occur later in the day in Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom.

By Wednesday, NiMet forecasts thick dust haze across the northern and North Central regions.

The southern region is expected to remain cloudy with sunny intervals and possible morning thunderstorms in parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom. Light rains and thunderstorms are also expected later in the day in Bayelsa, Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Cross River, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom.

NiMet advised residents, especially people with asthma and other breathing problems, to be careful because dust particles are in the air across the northern, North Central and some southern inland states.

The agency also advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to plan their flights properly.
