He said he was not surprised, noting limited playing time at the club and strong competition for Super Eagles’ forward positions.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have spoken out against racist abuse aimed at Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare after their 1-0 Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday.
In a statement, the club said they were “disgusted by numerous instances of racist abuse, from multiple perpetrators” on social media targeting Arokodare.
“There is no place for racism in football, online, or anywhere in society. We condemn this hateful and illegal behavior in the strongest terms,” Wolves added. The club also said Arokodare has their “full and unwavering support” and emphasized that no player should face hatred just for doing their job.
Wolves confirmed that the abusive posts have been reported to the relevant platforms and that they will work with the Premier League and authorities to identify those responsible. The club also reiterated a zero-tolerance stance on discrimination of any kind.
The abuse came after a tough match for the 23-year-old striker. Wolves lost late to Palace after substitute Evann Guessand scored in the 90th minute. Earlier, Arokodare had a penalty saved by Dean Henderson following a foul on Mateus Mané—a miss that proved costly.
This setback comes as Arokodare is also trying to revive his international career. The former KRC Genk forward was left out of Nigeria’s final squad for the last Africa Cup of Nations, despite being on the provisional list.
He said he was not surprised, noting limited playing time at the club and strong competition for Super Eagles’ forward positions.
Now getting more opportunities at Wolves, Arokodare hopes to return to the national team in the next international window. Despite challenges on and off the field, he remains focused on proving his value for both club and country.
