From the streets of Lagos Island to the pinnacle of Nigeria’s security architecture, Tunji Disu has built a career defined by operational grit, reform-driven leadership and global exposure.

Now appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Tinubu, Disu steps into the nation’s top policing role at a pivotal moment, bringing over three decades of experience, elite tactical command credentials and an unusual blend of academic depth and athletic discipline to the office.

Here are 40 astonishing facts about the new Acting IGP:

1. Disu was appointed Acting IGP  by President Bola Tinubu on February 24, 2026, replacing the former, Kayode Egbetokun

2. He was born on April 13, 1966 and hails from Lagos Island, Lagos State and would have retired from the police force on 13 April, 2026.

3. Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992.

4. He has over three decades of policing experience.

5. Disu once served as Commissioner of Police, FCT Abuja.

6. He also served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State.

7. He commanded the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) for six years where he rebranded RRS officers as “The Good Guys.”

8. He promoted community-based policing in Lagos and introduced hotspot and crime-mapping strategies.

9. Under him, RRS vehicles were visibly positioned for crime deterrence as his officers assisted accident victims and stranded motorists.

10. Under him, RRS ambulances were deployed to assist protesters during EndSARS in 2020.
