Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of promoting cultism and criminal activities in the state, even as his administration continues its intensified crackdown on violent confraternities.
Addressing journalists in Benin City on Monday, Okpebholo said, “Reports coming to me indicate that the ADC is promoting cultism in Edo State. I want to let you know that Akpakomiza might be small, but his caterpillars are not small.” The governor’s remark was a pointed warning to groups allegedly fomenting unrest in the state.
The statement was made during the demolition of a building in Amagba, Benin City, linked to suspected cultists, and the arrest of individuals connected to recent killings. The move is part of Governor Okpebholo’s ongoing anti-cultism operations, aimed at restoring peace and security across Edo State.
Okpebholo reiterated that his administration would show zero tolerance for violence, intimidation, or political sponsorship of cult activities. “As your governor, I will not allow criminal elements, no matter how they are disguised, to endanger the safety of our people,” he said.
Security analysts note that Edo has experienced escalating cult clashes in recent months, with fatalities and disruptions to businesses and communities. Okpebholo’s government has deployed intelligence-led operations, supported by a special security task force, to dismantle these networks and prosecute perpetrators under Edo’s anti-cultism laws
