President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has told the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to step down in a major shake-up within the nation’s security leadership.
Egbetokun was asked to step down during a meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday.
He is expected to be replaced by Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, as preparations for a formal handover ceremony are already underway.
Although there has been no official announcement as of press time, insiders within both the Presidency and the Nigeria Police Force confirmed that arrangements are being finalised for the transition.
Kayode Egbetokun was appointed as the 22nd Inspector-General of Police (IGP) by President Tinubu on June 19, 2023, with his appointment later confirmed by the Nigeria Police Council on October 31, 2023.
His removal is expected to trigger significant changes within the leadership structure of the police force.
