Nigerian comedian Deeone has reacted to the February 24, 2026 shooting incident involving former presidential candidate Peter Obi in Benin City, Edo State.
Reports indicated that unidentified gunmen allegedly trailed Obi’s convoy from the secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the residence of former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun.
Sources said the attackers opened fire shortly after the convoy arrived at the residence, damaging vehicles and riddling the estate gate with bullets. Obi was reportedly already inside the premises at the time and was not injured.
The visit was believed to be part of a political engagement during which Obi was receiving former Labour Party governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata, and his supporters into the ADC.
Reacting to the development in a video posted online, Deeone questioned the circumstances surrounding the attack and suggested it could have political undertones.
“Peter Obi, you cannot win this 2027 election with sympathy, it might have worked in 2023 but not this time. How are we sure it wasn’t one of your people that did it? How are we sure it’s not cheap publicity?” he said.
