Ogun governor Dapo Abiodun has boasted that his achievements in terms of road construction and infrastructure in the past six years are enough to send all his enemies, especially, his predecessors to Internally Displaced Persons, IDPS, camp.
Abiodun said this while commissioning Iworo-Ogbogbo-Igbeba road in Ijebu North-East local government area of Ogun State on Thursday.
While acknowledging the importance of Ijebu North-East local government as of the food basket of the state, Abiodun noted that the new road will enable farmers to bring their produce to market conveniently.
He noted that the road is a continuation of Igbaba road in Ijebu-Ode that was commissioned two weeks ago.
Abiodun noted that at the commissioning, he showed 28 roads that have been constructed while emphasizing that his administration has been intentional about development of road infrastructure in Ijebuland and the state in general.
He accused his predecessors of abandoning Ijebuland in terms of development of infrastructure.
“I will call this our own infrastructural emancipation for the entire Ijebuland. Ijebuland have been abandoned for more than 24 years by previous administrations, and it was a deliberate intention to put Ijebuland in the back of the bench. Our development has been suppressed by previous administrations for other parts in the state and I am glad I can beat my chest for this new development.
“I said it two weeks ago that there are no taxis in Ijebuland because there are no roads. Now, I can boldly say companies are coming back to bring back taxis in Ijebu-Ode. We have constructed roads that all previous administrations combined could not construct. I am glad that one of our renowned monarchs, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, the Alake of Egbaland, said this administration has constructed more houses that all previous administrations combined have constructed.
“I want to assure you that we will continue to provide inclusive and purposeful leadership to everyone in the state, even people with micro economy and make sure grassroots are not left behind from our affordable homes to our Primary Healthcare Centers, to our schools.
“They have continued to hire bloggers to malign us, but we will be responding with this kind of commissioning, we will continue to commission our housing projects – roads, Agric programmes – what we do for our market women, in education and other development in the state.
“I have been getting feedback on our roads. Just on my way here, a Judge from Lagos texted me about the Alagbole, Toyin, Ajuwon, Akute,Lanbe roads- he said in the last few years Akute Oke Aro have been under construction, and we are proud of you your Excellency. That’s from a judge and you know Judges don’t lie.
“For those who have been sponsoring social media attacks or sponsoring litigations, I want to tell you that you will all end up in IDP camps. None of your government have constructed all roads in eight years, not even in your combined 16 years. This is Ogun state; gateway of Nigeria’s prosperity, we have more roads than some states put together.
“Our administration has constructed more roads that are of economic importance, and we will still construct more roads. If my predecessors have done half of what we have done, we will not have come to meet such a gap of level of infrastructure that we are seeing today. So, you should bury your heads in shame and shut up your mouths.
“I sincere want to thank our father, a father of Nation who had brought more infrastructure to the country and laid down the importance of infrastructure, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for laudable implementation of projects. Go to Sagamu – for many years before 2023, the Sagamu expressway has been abandoned, but now the road is enjoying our President’s robust infrastructure,” Abiodun concluded.
Mr Adekunle Alawiye a community leader said the new road infrastructure represents more than infrastructure. He described it as a restoration of dignity for residents. He added that the new road is capable of stimulating economic revival and improving the overall quality of life within the communities along the corridor.
