Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Mary Njoku, has stirred conversations on social media after addressing Nigerian youths about what she described as a growing culture of distraction and competition for attention online.
Her comments come amid the ongoing online drama involving controversial personalities VeryDarkMan and King Mitchy, which has dominated social media discussions in recent days.
Taking to her Instagram page, the ROK Studios boss questioned whether the present generation still has the capacity to focus on their personal growth and future.
She wrote that she briefly logged online and was shocked by the level of noise and trivial conversations competing for people’s attention, urging young people to reflect on their priorities.
Njoku asked youths to examine themselves and determine whether they are intentionally pursuing meaningful goals or simply getting carried away by distractions that add little value to their lives.
The filmmaker also raised concerns about employability among young Nigerians. According to her, many job seekers present impressive and well-written CVs, yet employers still struggle to find suitable candidates.
She explained that while most résumés tick the right boxes on paper, there is often a disconnect during interviews, noting that CVs have gradually turned into marketing documents rather than true reflections of competence and skills.
In a separate message directed at women, the actress advised against excessive focus on cosmetic enhancements. She encouraged ladies to invest more in self-development and skills, stressing that a woman’s mind and abilities are what truly make her stand out.
Njoku further frowned at the increasing popularity of cosmetic procedures such as Botox among young women in their early twenties, urging them to embrace their youth and natural beauty.
