The Lagos State Government has clarified that over ₦4 billion allocated to the Office of the Deputy Governor in the 2026 budget is primarily for the reconstruction of the historic Round House complex, not for the purchase of office furniture and microphones as widely reported.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget explained that the total capital allocation for the Office of the Deputy Governor stands at ₦4,247,816,006.
According to the government, ₦4,077,816,006 of the amount is earmarked for the comprehensive reconstruction of the Round House, a six-storey building that accommodates more than 50 offices.
The reconstruction project will cover structural upgrades, retrofitting works and the installation of alternative energy infrastructure, among other improvements designed to modernise the facility and enhance operational efficiency.
The government described reports suggesting the entire allocation was for furniture and microphones as a misinterpretation of the approved capital provisions.
It clarified that the balance of ₦170 million within the capital vote is designated for office equipment, furniture and fittings, as well as other capital items.
To ensure transparency, the ministry stated that screenshots of the relevant budget master sheet have been made available for public review.
Reiterating its commitment to fiscal discipline, the government noted that all budgetary provisions are guided by due process and established accounting standards.
It also urged stakeholders and media organisations to seek clarification through official channels to avoid misinformation.
