The 26-year-old shot-stopper stated that he has always played football fairly and professionally, and he is determined to prove his innocence.
Obasogie was suspended for three months by his Tanzanian Premier League club, Singida Black Stars SC, on Friday.
The suspension came after the club raised concerns over his performance in both international and domestic competitions.
The goalkeeper was accused of allegedly manipulating the outcome of a CAF Confederation Cup match, as well as a domestic league game in Tanzania. Obasogie, however, explained that the goals he conceded in these matches were the result of normal footballing errors, and there was no deliberate attempt to affect the results.
He described the accusations as “unfair and baseless,” and expressed confidence that the truth would come out during the disciplinary proceedings.
The former Bendel Insurance player is now expected to appear before a disciplinary committee to defend himself and provide evidence to support his claims.
Fans and teammates have expressed mixed reactions, with many standing by him while the investigation continues.
Obasogie’s case has once again raised discussions about match-fixing and integrity in football, highlighting the pressures players face both at club and international levels.
The disciplinary committee’s decision will be closely watched by supporters, the media, and football authorities.
