Quick Read
During a recent media briefing, Governor Otti reacted angrily to a journalist who asked him to explain and give clear details about his reforms in Abia State.
A former boss of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), Paul Ikonne, has asked Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to apologise for speaking harshly to a journalist.
Ikonne, who is also a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made this call in a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Chiagoziem Enoch.
During a recent media briefing, Governor Otti reacted angrily to a journalist who asked him to explain and give clear details about his reforms in Abia State.
The governor’s reaction has caused debate among Nigerians. An anchor with Arise TV, Rufai Oseni, also criticised the governor’s behaviour.
In his response, Ikonne described Otti’s reaction as undemocratic and not suitable for someone in his position.
He said that instead of attacking the journalist, the governor should have calmly answered the questions with facts and clear data, especially as an economist.
Ikonne said governance should focus on real and measurable results, not just words.
He added that no leader who believes in democracy should insult a journalist for asking questions and insisted that Governor Otti must apologise immediately.
