The Chairman of Ikole Local Government Area in Ekiti, Mr. Bayo Omojola, has urged traders to avoid inflating prices of food items during Ramadan and Lent.

Omojola made the appeal when he paid an unscheduled visit to the King’s market in Ikole-Ekiti on Sunday.

He said selling foodstuff at affordable prices would help the Muslims and Christians that are fasting, to break their fast with ease.

”Deliberate inflation of foodstuff during this period of fasting is wickedness and selfishness. I urged market women to stop the act. Any market that foodstuff are being sold at higher prices at this period is displaying wickedness. We can’t call ourselves brothers and sisters, and inflicting pains on each other. I am specifically appealing to traders in Ikole Local Government Area to sell food items at affordable prices,” he said.

He said despite the current economic downturn in the country, the foodstuff sellers must be compassionate.
