U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed that six American service members have been killed in the ongoing military confrontation with Iran, with major operations still underway, the command said on Monday.

In an update from CENTCOM headquarters in Tampa, Florida, the U.S. military said that the remains of two previously unaccounted-for service members were recovered from a facility struck during Iran’s initial attacks in the region.

The identities of the fallen are being withheld pending next-of-kin notifications, which must be completed at least 24 hours before public release.

The latest casualty figures reflect a rise from earlier reports indicating that three service members had died and five were seriously wounded in combat operations linked to Iran’s retaliatory strikes, part of what U.S. forces have termed Operation Epic Fury.

The initial deaths occurred amid a barrage of Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. bases and allied positions across the Middle East, following a joint U.S.–Israeli offensive that struck deep inside Iran.

The Gulf region has seen an escalation of hostilities, with additional missiles fired at U.S. and allied installations in Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and elsewhere.

CENTCOM emphasised that major combat operations are ongoing, and warned that the operational environment remains fluid. The statement did not disclose specific locations of the strikes or further tactical details.

The rising U.S. toll highlights the human cost of the widening conflict with Iran, which began after Tehran responded to military pressure with a campaign of attacks on regional U.S. and allied assets.
