Customs officials explained that the petrol was confiscated during several anti-smuggling operations along major border routes known for illegal fuel trade.
The operations were part of efforts to protect Nigeria’s economy and stop the illegal movement of subsidised fuel to neighbouring countries.
According to the NCS, the petrol will be sold to members of the public through an auction, following standard procedures. The agency said this will ensure the fuel is properly used and sold at approved prices, while also discouraging smuggling.
The Customs Service assured Nigerians that it will continue to clamp down on economic sabotage, especially in border communities. It also warned smugglers to stop their illegal activities or face the full weight of the law.
