The head coach of the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon, Mike Ndoumou, has opened up about the reasons behind his team’s 3-1 loss to Nigeria’s Super Falcons in a pre-2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) friendly held at the Military Stadium in Yaoundé on Tuesday.
Cameroon’s women started the friendly week on a high note, defeating the Super Falcons 1-0 in the first encounter last Saturday, raising hopes among home fans that the Lionesses could maintain their edge.
However, Nigeria came back strongly in the second fixture, asserting dominance and claiming a convincing 3-1 victory.
The match began with an encouraging moment for the hosts, as Christiane put the Indomitable Lionesses ahead early, igniting the stadium with excitement.
But the Super Falcons quickly turned the tide, showcasing their experience and tactical prowess.
Goals from Chiwendu Ihezuo, Omorinsola Babajide, and Michelle Alozie secured the win for Nigeria and left Cameroon searching for answers.
Speaking after the game, Ndoumou candidly admitted that his team struggled to contain the Super Falcons’ attacking play.
“We let Nigeria lay siege on us and dominate in our half. Once they gained momentum, the goals came very quickly,” he said.
He further explained that the friendly matches are a vital preparation for the upcoming WAFCON 2026 tournament, which Cameroon is determined to compete fiercely in.
Despite the defeat, Ndoumou remained optimistic, noting that the two matches against Nigeria would provide valuable lessons for his squad as they continue to fine-tune strategies and build cohesion ahead of the continental championship.
The Super Falcons, meanwhile, will take confidence from their performance as they aim to defend their WAFCON title later this year.
Both teams are expected to use these friendlies to experiment with tactics, integrate emerging talents, and sharpen their squads for the challenges ahead.
