He described the appointment as both a privilege and a significant responsibility, pledging to work closely with the council members, the Ekiti State chapter of the APC and the party’s national secretariat to ensure the governor’s re-election.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Opeyemi Bamidele, Leader of the Nigerian Senate, to head the campaign council for the re-election bid of Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, Governor of Ekiti State, ahead of the June 18 governorship election.
The party announced the development on Thursday, naming a 57-member campaign council that will coordinate the governor’s bid for a second term.
Apart from the leader of the senate, the party named the Chairman of Ekiti State APC, Mr. Sola Elesin as the vice chairman of the campaign council; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Oyeniyi Adebayo as the Secretary and 54 other high-powered members of the campaign council.
Also listed on the council are Adeyemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs; Cyril Fasuyi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Services; the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye; and former Deputy Governor of the state, Biodun Olujimi, among others.
In a statement issued by his Directorate of Media and Public Affairs, Bamidele expressed appreciation to the party leadership for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the campaign effort.
He described the appointment as both a privilege and a significant responsibility, pledging to work closely with the council members, the Ekiti State chapter of the APC and the party’s national secretariat to ensure the governor’s re-election.
According to the Senate leader, the campaign would provide an opportunity to present the achievements of the Oyebanji administration and the broader record of the APC at the national level.
Bamidele maintained that the governor’s second-term bid would serve as a referendum on his performance in office over the past 40 months.
He said Ekiti State had witnessed political cohesion, peace and stability under Oyebanji’s leadership, noting that the administration had pursued inclusive governance that accommodates citizens across political and religious divides.
“Governor Oyebanji has provided transformative leadership that accommodates the interests of all regardless of their political and religious affiliation,” Bamidele said, adding that the governor deserves another term to consolidate ongoing development projects and programmes across the state.
