Manager of Crystal Palace F.C., Oliver Glasner, has been banned from driving for six months after he was caught speeding in a 20mph zone in London.
Glasner, 51, was captured by a speed camera driving his BMW at 29mph along Old Kent Road in Bermondsey, an area with a strict 20mph speed limit.
The offence occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on July 15 last year.
The Austrian coach later pleaded guilty to the offence at Willesden Magistrates’ Court and submitted a handwritten letter to the court, promising not to break the law again in a bid to avoid a driving ban.
“I fully accept responsibility for my actions and understand the seriousness of this matter,” Glasner told magistrates.
He added that he had taken steps to ensure the offence would not happen again.
However, magistrates still imposed a six-month driving disqualification on the football manager during proceedings conducted under the Single Justice Procedure.
Glasner was also ordered to pay a £660 fine, £130 in court costs and a £264 victim surcharge.
The prosecution was brought by the Metropolitan Police Service.
According to the police, the Crystal Palace boss initially attempted to settle the case by paying a fine, but the additional penalty points would have pushed the total on his licence to 12 or more, triggering an automatic ban.
As a result, the payment was refunded and the case was referred for prosecution.
Court documents show Glasner pleaded guilty in writing on January 27 and later acknowledged in a second letter on February 16 that a driving ban would likely be imposed.
The incident occurred just two months after Glasner guided Crystal Palace to victory in the FA Cup during his first full season in charge of the club.
Reports also revealed that Glasner was among more than 1,000 motorists prosecuted last week for breaching 20mph speed limits across London.
