Operatives of the Command Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad (CIRRS) of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a 35-year-old medical doctor, Dr Kingsley Dele, for allegedly being in unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm.
The suspect was apprehended at about 10am on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Obaretin Community following what police described as credible and actionable intelligence.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said officers carried out a discreet but swift operation which led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol from the suspect.
“The Command views the illegal possession of firearms, regardless of status or profession of those involved, as a grave threat to public peace and will continue to respond with firmness and precision,” Ikoedem said.
She added that the suspect would be charged in court after the completion of investigations.
Ikoedem noted that the arrest is part of an ongoing strategy led by the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, to curb the circulation of illegal weapons believed to be fuelling violent crimes in communities across the state.
Meanwhile, Agbonika assured residents of Edo State that the Command remains vigilant, proactive and committed to protecting lives and property.
He also urged members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and useful information.
