Pop star Britney Spears has been arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) after police allegedly chased her vehicle for about an hour in California.

Authorities said the singer was behind the wheel of a 2026 black BMW convertible when officers from the California Highway Patrol spotted the car braking erratically and swerving between lanes on Wednesday night in Ventura County.

Police began trailing the vehicle around 8:13 p.m., before finally pulling it over at about 9:13 p.m.

During a search of the car, officers reportedly discovered an “unknown substance” inside the vehicle, which has been sent to a laboratory for testing, according to reports.

Spears, 44, was later taken into custody and booked at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office around 3 a.m.

After the arrest, the singer was transported to a hospital where blood samples were taken as part of the DUI investigation.

Online records showed she was released from custody around 6 a.m. on Thursday.

Her vehicle was impounded and taken to a tow yard in Thousand Oaks, while authorities continue their investigation.

The Sun, in a report, said the pop star appeared emotional during the booking process and was reportedly crying.

Spears is expected to appear in court on May 4 over the incident.

Following the arrest, fans noticed that the singer had disabled her Instagram account, sparking fresh concern about her wellbeing.

Her manager, Cade Hudson, described the incident as “unfortunate” and said the singer would cooperate with authorities.

“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” Hudson said in a statement, adding that Spears would take the necessary steps to comply with the law.
