Singer Shallipopi under fire after showing up with koboko whip

Nigerian singer Shallipopi has sparked reactions on social media after a viral video showed him arriving at a plaza while holding a koboko whip, reportedly to prevent fans from mobbing him.

In the video circulating online, the singer was seen arriving in a vehicle at a busy shopping plaza where a crowd of excited fans had gathered, repeatedly chanting his name.

Moments later, Shallipopi stepped out of the vehicle holding the whip, an action that quickly drew attention from those present at the scene.

According to some social media users, the singer may have carried the koboko as a precaution to keep fans from crowding him too closely as they rushed to greet him.

The clip has since spread across several social media platforms, generating mixed reactions from netizens.

While some fans found the moment humorous and described it as a strategy to control an overexcited crowd, others criticised the move, arguing that celebrities should treat their supporters with respect.

Several online users shared their opinions in the comment section after the video surfaced.

One user, identified as Mr Andrew, wrote: “So for him mind he get fans? Make he come Port Harcourt if anybody go send him papa.”

Another user, Drumsteady, questioned the motive behind the whip, writing: “Koboko whip to beat who? Fans? Or random pickpockets? Being famous, that’s the price you pay.”
