A 15-year-old boy, Gobri Yusuf, has been arrested by the Kwara State Police Command for allegedly killing his guardian, identified as Akanbi, who adopted and raised him in Ilorin, the state capital.
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ilorin on Friday.
According to him, the police received a distress call after the woman was found lying in a pool of blood in her home.
Ojo said preliminary investigations showed that the suspect, who lived with the deceased, carried out the attack while the woman was bathing.
He explained that the boy allegedly hid behind a door before attacking her with several household items.
Items reportedly recovered from the suspect include a frying pan, a weighing scale, a kitchen turning stick (spatula), and kitchen knives.
The police commissioner said the suspect later confessed to committing the crime during interrogation. According to the boy, he carried out the attack because he had developed resentment towards his guardian.
After the incident, the suspect reportedly changed his clothes and left the house, pretending he was going on an errand.
Police said he later contacted the deceased’s husband, who then came home and discovered his wife’s lifeless body.
The police said investigations are still ongoing while the suspect remains in custody.
