Arsenal F.C. survived a late scare to defeat Mansfield Town F.C. 2–1 on Saturday and secure a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

The Premier League side had to dig deep at the One Call Stadium after a spirited display by the lower-league hosts, who pushed Mikel Arteta’s men to the limit before bowing out of the competition.

Arsenal took the lead in the 41st minute when winger Noni Madueke produced a moment of brilliance. Latching onto a neat pass from Gabriel Martinelli at the edge of the box, Madueke unleashed a powerful strike into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Liam Roberts helpless.

Despite Arsenal’s early dominance, Mansfield drew level shortly after the restart. In the 50th minute, Will Evans capitalised on a defensive error to slot the ball into an empty net from close range, sparking celebrations among the home supporters.

The equaliser briefly shifted momentum in favour of the League One side, who pressed forward in search of a famous upset.

However, Arsenal regained control midway through the second half when substitute Eberechi Eze restored their lead in the 66th minute. The midfielder collected a pass from Christian Nørgaard before firing an unstoppable shot into the top-right corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Mansfield refused to back down and nearly forced extra time in stoppage time, but goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga produced a crucial save to deny Oliver Irow’s close-range header.

Arsenal also had opportunities to extend their lead late in the game, with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus both testing Roberts, who delivered several impressive saves to keep the scoreline respectable.

The encounter was a physical contest, with several players from both sides receiving yellow cards as the tension of the knockout tie intensified.

Despite Mansfield’s spirited resistance in front of a crowd of 9,260 fans, Arsenal held on to seal victory and advance to the last eight of the FA Cup as Arteta’s side continue their push for silverware this season.
