Three girls were found dead in a water tank in Telangana’s Kamareddy district on Saturday.
Police are suspecting that their father may have pushed them into the reservoir.
The girls had gone out with him earlier in the day and failed to return home, police said.
The victims were aged 8, 7 and 5 and residents of Kamareddy, according to India Today.
The children had reportedly accompanied their father to buy snacks from a nearby grocery store.
When they did not return for several hours, family members began searching for them.
After the children remained untraceable, the police registered a missing case and launched a search operation, forming three special teams to trace them.
During the investigation, suspicion fell on the father. Police sources said he was suspected to have pushed the children into the water tank. Police said the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Search teams began combing the reservoir, and during the operation, the bodies of two girls were recovered from the water. The search continued for the 8-year-old, whose body was also found later.
The recovery of the children’s bodies triggered scenes of grief at the site, with their mother breaking down inconsolably.
