The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF), in collaboration with Kano state government, have distributed 100, 000 bags of rice to 100, 000 vulnerable families as palliatives to help them augment their feeding during the Ramadan (fasting) season.
The distribution of the rice across the 44 Local Government Area of the state, was flagged off by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Farouk Ibrahim, on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the Open Theater, Government House, Kano on Saturday.
He commended the Aliko Dangote Foundation for the kind gesture and urged those in-charge of the distribution to ensure that the palliatives get to the targeted beneficiaries—the vulnerable people across the state.
The state Commissioner of Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mamoud, who led the distribution of the bags of rice, assured that the poorest of the poor and vulnerable people in the state will surely receive the palliatives.
Giving insight of the event to journalists, Dr. Mamoud said: “Actually, the Aliko Dangote Foundation donated about 100,000 bags of 10 kg, rice to be distributed to the needy across the 44 Local Government Areas in the state.
“And the Aliko Dangote Foundation handed everything over to the state government under the leadership of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf. The governor assigned a team, which comprised the SSG, myself as the Commissioner of Agriculture, and some Special Advisors to handle the job.”
Dr. Mamoud further stated that the distribution commenced immediately after the flagging off at Government House, adding that the palliatives were carefully distributed to the vulnerable people across the state.
According to him, ” we were able to distribute the bags of rice to the vulnerable and the needy across the state. We started with street distribution targeting those we observe actually need the rice. No single bag was diverted, as we make sure that those in need got the palliatives.
” We have been able to cover some targeted areas. We know there are some areas that have a crowd of needy individuals—-men, women, the disabled, among others.
“So, that is what we have just accomplished today. The one that has just been uploaded is the one that will equally go to the street distribution.”
The Commissioner described the 2026 palliative distribution as very unique, adding that, “before, it was the Aliko Dangote Foundation that usually come to flag off and handle the distribution. But because of the trust the Foundation has on the state government, under the leadership of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, they decided to hand everything over to the government to distribute.
“And we have a very robust system for distribution that ensured that the palliatives will directly go to the needy.”
