When Trippier was called for a foul on Doku, Guardiola argued with fourth official Lewis Smith and made strong gestures to show his disagreement

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has been given a two-match touchline ban by the The Football Association.

The ban happened because he received too many disciplinary points this season.

His latest yellow card came during Saturday’s FA Cup match against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
During the first half, Guardiola reacted angrily on the sidelines after a clash between Kieran Trippier and Jérémy Doku.

When Trippier was called for a foul on Doku, Guardiola argued with fourth official Lewis Smith and made strong gestures to show his disagreement.

The referee gave Guardiola a yellow card. It was his sixth booking in domestic competitions this season, which automatically leads to a two-match suspension for misconduct in the technical area.

Television cameras also showed Guardiola sarcastically clapping toward the match officials after Omar Marmoush scored Manchester City’s third goal before halftime. This action may also have been mentioned in the referee’s report.

Because of the ban, Guardiola will not be allowed on the touchline when Manchester City play West Ham United in the Premier League next Saturday. He will also miss Manchester City’s FA Cup quarter-final match in April.

However, he is still allowed to be in the dressing room before the match and during halftime. He just cannot stand on the sideline or give instructions from the technical area during the game.

The ban does not apply to European competitions or domestic cup finals. This means Guardiola can still manage from the touchline during the UEFA Champions League match against Real Madrid and the EFL Cup Final against Arsenal on March 22.
