2027: Bala Mohammed, Seyi Makinde, others told to defect to ADC
Quick Read
According to him, the ADC is the best alternative for opposition politicians and could become a strong platform to challenge the ruling party in 2027.
A political activist from Kogi State, Usman Austin Okai, has asked some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to leave the party and join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) immediately.
Okai made this call after recent court decisions affecting the PDP.
He specifically asked Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, and Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, as well as members of the Turaki faction in the PDP, to move to the ADC before the party begins its ward congresses.
His statement came after the Court of Appeal (Nigeria) on March 9, 2026 confirmed an earlier order by the Federal High Court of Nigeria that stopped the recognition of the PDP’s disputed Ibadan convention.
Okai warned that the legal problems in the PDP could seriously affect politicians who plan to run in the 2027 elections.
He said the court decision shows that the Supreme Court of Nigeria might also rule against the convention later. If that happens after party primaries have already been held, all candidates chosen under that convention could be disqualified.
Because of this risk, Okai said serious politicians should not remain in the PDP.
He described the PDP as a “lost cause” and suggested that people who stay in the party may end up helping the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) indirectly.
According to him, the ADC is the best alternative for opposition politicians and could become a strong platform to challenge the ruling party in 2027.
He also encouraged members of the Turaki faction and grassroots supporters to join the ADC and participate in its upcoming direct primaries so that the opposition can build a united and stronger political structure.
