The trial of one Innocent Chukwuma, who used his social media handle to call the military to overthrow the President Bola Tinubu-led government will begin on May 18, 2026.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday fixed the date following an application by the prosecution lawyer, David Kaswe.

Kaswe had asked for adjournment to enable him to study the case file upon resumed hearing of the case on Monday.

He said he had just been briefed about the matter after the case file was transferred to his office by the Department of State Services (DSS).

He sought an adjournment to enable him to study the file.

Justice Abdulmalik therefore adjourned the matter until May 18 and 19 for trial.

Chukwuma was recently arraigned before the court, following his alleged inciting post.

DSS operatives reportedly trailed him to Oyigbo, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he was arrested.

The charge before Justice Abdulmalik is marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/610/2025 between the Federal Republic of Nigeria vs. innocent Chukwuemeka Onukwume.

Posting on his “X” handle “@TheAgroman”, Chukwuma stated that a coup was needed in Nigeria and called on the military to “suspend the Nigerian government”.

He further posted, “A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigerian Government, and join the AES. That is all we need now.”
