The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Kano State has pledged to intensify collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to combat drug abuse in the state.

The state Coordinator of NOA, Nura Liman, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Kano on Monday.

Liman said that the agency was stepping up awareness campaigns on the dangers of drug abuse, particularly among youths.

He explained that the collaboration aimed to educate the public, especially youths, on the harmful effects of drug abuse.

“Investigations reveal it’s spreading in Kano, a worrying trend requiring collective action, and so NOA is boosting awareness on health, social, and economic risks,” he said.

He also linked youth involvement in drug abuse to social vices and crime, saying tackling it could reduce criminality.

He lauded the state government efforts at curbing phone snatching and thuggery, adding that it showed commitment to peace and security.

Liman added that public sensitisation remained a collective responsibility, and called on community leaders, parents, civil society groups and the media to support ongoing efforts in educating the public.

He said this would help in achieving the state’s goal of reducing drug abuse and related crimes.
