Bayern Munich delivered a ruthless attacking display to crush Atalanta 6–1 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash on Tuesday night, putting themselves firmly on course for the quarter-finals.

The German champions dominated the encounter in Bergamo from the opening minutes, racing into an early lead and overwhelming their Italian hosts with relentless attacking football.

Josip Stanišić opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he converted from close range after a corner, setting the tone for what became a one-sided contest.

Bayern quickly tightened their grip on the match as Michael Olise doubled the lead with a powerful strike from outside the box before setting up Serge Gnabry to make it 3–0 midway through the first half.

The visitors showed no signs of slowing down after the break. Nicolas Jackson extended Bayern’s advantage early in the second half, finishing off a fast counterattack to make it four.

Olise then grabbed his second goal of the night in the 64th minute before Jamal Musiala added another shortly after to cap a devastating spell of attacking dominance.

Atalanta managed a late consolation goal through Mario Pašalić in stoppage time, but it did little to soften the humiliation suffered by the Italian side on home soil.

The emphatic victory means Bayern now hold a commanding advantage heading into the return leg in Munich and are widely expected to progress to the last eight of Europe’s elite club competition.
