Nollywood actor Rotimi Salami has expressed concern over the poor turnout of audiences for his latest movie, “Kilanko,” currently showing in Nigerian cinemas.

The actor revealed that the film, directed by the late filmmaker Ademola Allwell, recorded disappointing sales during its opening weekend, raising fears that it could be removed from cinemas earlier than expected.

Salami made the disclosure in an Instagram post where he appeared in a video alongside veteran actress Yetunde Wunmi, appealing to fans to support the film.

According to him, the turnout at cinemas over the weekend was lower than anticipated despite promotional activities and meet-and-greet sessions organised for fans.

“I am making this post with a heavy heart. Kilanko sales at the cinemas last weekend weren’t good. That’s why I couldn’t post throughout yesterday,” he said.

The actor, however, expressed gratitude to those who attended the promotional events and screenings of the film.

“Still, I say a very big thank you to everyone who came out at different times for the meet-and-greet, and likewise to everyone who came out to watch, but the numbers are pretty small,” he added.

Salami warned that if the film fails to meet the expected sales target by the end of the week, it may be withdrawn from cinemas before the end of the Ramadan period.

“If Kilanko doesn’t make the expected figure by this weekend, it might be kicked out of the cinemas even before Ramadan is over. Please, we need all the support we can get to reach a retainable figure,” he said.

Describing the film as a must-watch, the actor urged movie lovers to turn out and support the project.

“Kilanko is surely a beautiful movie that everyone must see. Thank you, mama @yetunde_wunmi_ for the prayers,” he added.

The movie “Kilanko” is one of the final works directed by the late Ademola Allwell.
