Quick Read

In separate letters, Tinubu also requested the Senate to confirm key appointments, including Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance. The nomination has been referred to the Committee of the Whole.

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday submitted the 2026 statutory budget of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to the Nigerian Senate for consideration and approval.

The budget letter was read on the floor of the Senate by Senator Godswill Akpabio following a three-week recess for the budget defence exercise.

In separate letters, Tinubu also requested the Senate to confirm key appointments, including Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance. The nomination has been referred to the Committee of the Whole.

If confirmed, Oyedele will replace Doris Uzoka-Anite, who will now move to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning — her third portfolio in the administration.

Other nominations sent to the Senate include:

Mainasara Illo as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre, referred to the committees on Narcotics and Drugs and Sports.

Magnus Abe as Chairman of the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), alongside two commissioner nominees.

Francis Ifeanyi Asogwa as a federal commissioner representing the South-East, sent to the Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters Committee.

Two nominees for the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission: Amina Gamawa (Bauchi) and Abdullahi Murktar (Kaduna), referred to the relevant committees.

Oyedele, 50, is a public policy expert, accountant, and economist. He chaired Tinubu’s tax reforms committee and previously served as Africa tax leader at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). He holds a Higher National Diploma in accountancy and finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
