American streaming platform Netflix has announced that there will be a sequel to Oscar-nominated animation, KPop Demon Hunters.
The animation which was released in 2025 was announced as the streaming platform’s most watched movie of all time.
Co-directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans expressed their pride for the success of the film, revealing that they have so much to share with their fans.
“I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters. There’s so much more to this world we have built and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning,” Kang said.
The singer Ejae, who voices Rumi’s singing voice and co-wrote the film’s breakout hit Golden and other songs, explained that she would like the culture and musical diversity of Korea to be incorporated in the sequel.
“It depends on what they create and hopefully, you know, we can show more sides of Korea. There’s so many different kinds of music in Korea, so that’s what I’m hoping for personally. A lot is happening so I’m trying to digest everything but it’s really hard to digest. It’s crazy,” she told BBC.
Netflix is however yet to announce the date for the release of the sequel.
