Earlier, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had issued a statement through its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, alleging that four bandits were apprehended at the facility.
The Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State has dismissed claims that four bandits were arrested at Akure Airport on Sunday.
Earlier, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had issued a statement through its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, alleging that four bandits were apprehended at the facility.
However, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Abayomi Jimoh, clarified in a statement on Monday that the report was false.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Command wishes to state clearly that no such incident occurred at the Akure Airport, and there was no security breach of any kind at the facility,” Jimoh said.
He added that the Command, however, received credible intelligence from a concerned citizen regarding suspected kidnappers operating around the Eleyewo axis of Akure.
Following the tip-off, police operatives launched a targeted operation in the area, resulting in the arrest of two suspects, who are believed to be logistics suppliers aiding kidnapping activities within the state.
Jimoh noted that the suspects have made useful confessional statements that are currently assisting ongoing investigations and efforts to apprehend other members of the criminal network.
