“Preliminary information indicates that the terrorists may have deployed multiple suicide bombers into Maiduguri with the intention of carrying out coordinated attacks at crowded locations,” the statement said.

The Nigerian Army has raised fresh alarms over the possibility of more attacks in Maiduguri, saying multiple suicide bombers are still active in the city following Monday evening’s coordinated explosions.

The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, disclosed in a statement by its Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, that security operations have been intensified across the metropolis to track down the suspects and prevent further attacks.

“The terrorists may have deployed multiple suicide bombers into Maiduguri with the intention of carrying out coordinated attacks at crowded locations,” the Army said, urging residents to remain vigilant.

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and other security agencies, have secured affected areas, while patrols and counter-IED measures have been stepped up across the city.

Emergency responders, including personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), evacuated victims from the blasts to General Hospital, Specialist Hospital, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where medical teams are still attending to the injured.

The Army described the attacks as calculated attempts to inflict mass casualties and spread panic, particularly as they occurred during the Iftar period when many residents were gathered in public spaces.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid crowded areas where possible, report suspicious movements, and cooperate with security personnel. Operation HADIN KAI also extended condolences to the families of victims and reassured residents that all necessary steps are being taken to safeguard lives and property.
