Although he expressed hope that Galatasaray would qualify because of Victor Osimhen, he admitted that Liverpool’s strength at home makes them slight favourites.

The UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg matches will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday, with teams battling for a place in the quarter-finals.

After last week’s first-leg encounters, the competition is now at a crucial stage where only eight of the sixteen remaining clubs will progress, making these fixtures decisive and highly competitive.

The teams still in contention include Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Atalanta, Sporting CP, Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle United, Atletico Madrid, Galatasaray, Bayer Leverkusen, Manchester City and Bodo/Glimt, with each side aiming to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

Several of the ties remain finely balanced, while others already appear close to being decided. Bodo/Glimt hold a strong 3-0 advantage over Sporting CP, putting the Portuguese side under serious pressure to produce a remarkable comeback at home. Chelsea also face a difficult task after losing 5-2 to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg, meaning they must score at least four goals without conceding to stand any chance of progressing.

In another high-profile clash, Manchester City were beaten 3-0 by Real Madrid in Spain, leaving the Premier League side needing a big performance at home to overturn the deficit.

Meanwhile, Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg, making their second-leg encounter one of the most evenly matched ties, although Arsenal may benefit from playing in front of their home supporters.

Other fixtures also promise excitement, with Barcelona set to host Newcastle United after a 1-1 draw in England, while Tottenham Hotspur must attempt to overturn a heavy 5-2 defeat against Atletico Madrid.

Liverpool will welcome Galatasaray to Anfield following a narrow 1-0 loss in Turkey, a result that leaves the tie open and difficult to predict. However, Bayern Munich appear to have already secured their place in the next round after a dominant 6-1 victory over Atalanta in the first leg.

Speaking ahead of the matches, football coach Emmanuel Brown described the second-leg fixtures as intense and decisive, noting that teams that lost their first-leg matches will be under greater pressure because they must win to avoid elimination.

He added that clubs such as Bodo/Glimt, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid already have a strong advantage and are likely to progress to the quarter-finals.

Brown also backed Arsenal and Barcelona to advance due to their home advantage, while describing the clash between Liverpool and Galatasaray as too close to call.

Although he expressed hope that Galatasaray would qualify because of Victor Osimhen, he admitted that Liverpool’s strength at home makes them slight favourites.

With everything still to play for, the second-leg matches are expected to deliver drama, tension and possibly surprising results as teams fight to secure a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
