The Benin Traditional Council (BTC) has warned of possible sanctions against a palace queen and other officials following the unauthorised visit of popular streamer, Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, also known as Peller, to the Oba of Benin’s palace.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the BTC Secretary, Frank Irabor, the council described the incident as a serious breach of palace protocol and a violation of the sanctity of the revered institution.

Peller, who is currently on a nationwide tour, reportedly visited the palace on March 6, 2026, where he was received by some palace officials. However, the council faulted the process through which he gained access, insisting that it did not follow established procedures.

According to the BTC, the development amounts to a desecration of the palace, stressing that such actions would not be tolerated.

“The Benin Traditional Council wishes to address the public regarding a serious breach of protocol and desecration of the sacred precincts of the Palace,” the statement read.

“The council confirms that an individual, Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, popularly known as Peller, gained unauthorised access to the palace premises. His actions caused embarrassment and a breach of peace within the palace grounds.”

The council further emphasised that the palace is a sacred institution governed by centuries-old traditions and not a place for casual visits or content creation.

As part of disciplinary measures, a palace chief found culpable has reportedly been placed on indefinite suspension, while a staff member identified as Omuemu has been detained by the Nigeria Police and charged to court for allegedly aiding the unauthorised entry.

The BTC also disclosed that a queen alleged to have facilitated the visit is currently facing internal disciplinary proceedings, which may lead to her removal from the palace in line with Benin customs and traditions.

In addition, the council has directed Peller to appear before a committee of chiefs to explain the circumstances surrounding his visit.

However, the council expressed concern that the streamer has yet to honour the invitation, warning that failure to comply could result in legal action.

“The council is therefore demanding that Mr Adelaja presents himself immediately and tenders an unreserved written apology for the embarrassment caused,” Irabor stated.

The BTC reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the dignity and sanctity of the Benin throne, warning that any attempt to undermine the institution would be met with strict consequences.
