The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Tuesday assured residents of Borno State of the Nigeria Police Force’s determination to dismantle networks responsible for the recent improvised explosive device (IED) attacks in Maiduguri, the state capital and prevent any recurrence.

Disu said this when he visited victims of the IED explosions receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

During the visit, Disu assessed the Monday Market bombing site in Maiduguri.

The IGP also proceeded to the Borno State Government House and the State Police Command Headquarters to review ongoing security measures and strengthen coordinated response strategies.

Disu commiserated with the victims and their families and emphasized that security in Maiduguri has been significantly tightened, with increased deployments and enhanced surveillance.

He added that joint operational measures are ongoing across the metropolis to forestall further threats and ensure public safety. (NAN)

Recall that at least 25 people were killed while many others were injured in the multiple explosions in different locations across Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Monday.

Speaking on Tuesday during the closing of the Annual Ramadan Tafsir at the State House Mosque, Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima said no religion endorses the taking innocent lives, as the sanctity of human life remains a core tenet of major world faiths.

Shettima prayed Almighty Allah to grant the souls of those killed in the terror attack in Maiduguri eternal rest.

The vice-president also prayed to Allah to reward the victims with Al-jannah firdaus and give their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“May the lives of innocent souls – 25 of them – that lost their lives in Maiduguri last evening rest in peace.

“May Allah grant their souls eternal rest and reward them with His Al-jannah firdaus, and may Allah also grant their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.

“May Allah bring this madness to an end. No religion endorses the killing of the innocent.

“Whatever that is motivating them, may Allah either guide them on to the right path or May Allah vanish them from the surface of the earth,” he said.
