‘Support President Tinubu peacefully’- Momodu tells Sunday Igboho

“My dear brother Sunday Igboho OOSA, let me appeal to you to support any candidate of your choice, PEACEFULLY, and others will support theirs, FREELY
Veteran journalist, Dele Momodu has called on Yoruba nation agitator Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to support any presidential candidate of his choice peacefully, stressing that no one can stop political campaigns in Yorubaland or Nigeria at large.
In a message addressed to Igboho, Momodu appealed: “My dear brother Sunday Igboho OOSA, let me appeal to you to support any candidate of your choice, PEACEFULLY, and others will support theirs, FREELY. Atiku or Obi cannot be stopped by you, or anyone else for that matter, from campaigning in any part of Yorubaland or Nigeria as a whole.”
The media mogul added that while he respected Igboho’s preference for President Bola Tinubu, he urged the activist to avoid threatening fellow citizens, emphasizing the need to preach peace rather than war.
Momodu concluded his message with goodwill to Igboho and his family, stating: “My love always to you and yours.”
The appeal comes amid a simmering feud between Igboho and human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, over political alignment and activism.
On Tuesday, Igboho dismissed Sowore’s remarks describing his activism as “amala politics,” reaffirming his right to support President Tinubu’s prospective second-term bid in 2027 and pursue security advocacy in the South-West.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Olayomi Koiki, Igboho stressed that his activism is focused on protecting lives, property, and communities in Yorubaland, not transactional politics.
The statement read: “We strongly reject the characterisation of Igboho’s activism as transactional. Such a myopic position misrepresents the intent and focus of our agitation on effective grassroots security in the South-West, and Nigeria as a whole. How many protests did Sowore organise to push for my freedom? Sowore’s claim of fighting for the masses contradicts his daily lodging expenses of N450,000 at a popular Lagos hotel.”
Igboho further emphasised that he cannot be compelled to endorse other political figures, including Peter Obi or Atiku Abubakar, insisting that his decisions are based on the security and collective interests of the Yoruba people.
He highlighted ongoing threats in the region, including kidnappings, killings of farmers, and attacks on traditional rulers, arguing that his movement is a response to tangible security challenges rather than political ambition or revolutionary leadership.
