Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has spoken out defiantly over the money laundering allegations leveled against him during his time in office.
In an exclusive interview following his release from custody, Malami insisted that despite his arrest and the 16-count charges preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), he has no regrets about his tenure as minister.
He and his family, wife Bashir Asabe and son Abdulaziz have all pleaded not guilty to the charges, which revolve around alleged money laundering during his ministerial service. Malami was initially remanded in Kuje Prison, later rearrested by the Department of State Services (DSS), and eventually granted bail in February 2026.

Despite the ordeal, Malami remained unapologetic. “I have spent time in EFCC custody, Kuje Prison, and with the DSS. I believe it is all God’s will, and I accept it, but I will defend myself against the allegations,” he said. “I have no regrets regarding what I did during my time as minister.”
