A long-simmering tension between Justin Bieber and his former mentor Usher reportedly boiled over at an Oscars after-party hosted by Beyoncé and Jay-Z last weekend, leaving Hollywood’s elite as witnesses to an awkward confrontation.
According to multiple reports citing TMZ, the altercation occurred Sunday night at the exclusive Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood, where the power couple hosted one of the most coveted post-Academy Awards gatherings.
Usher, 47, allegedly approached Bieber, 32, with what sources described as “energy and anger,” sparking a brief but “heated exchange” between the two pop stars.
Insiders close to Bieber told TMZ that no physical contact occurred during the incident. However, the confrontation did not go unnoticed by the party’s star-studded guest list, which included Bieber’s wife Hailey Bieber, newly minted Oscar winner Michael B. Jordan, nominees Timothée Chalamet and Teyana Taylor, Taylor Swift with fiancé Travis Kelce, Kylie Jenner, and members of the Jenner-Kardashian family.
The reported clash marks a significant escalation in what appears to be a deteriorating relationship between the longtime collaborators.

The pair went on to collaborate on the 2010 track “Somebody to Love” and frequently reunited on stage over the years.
Tensions first became public in 2024 when Bieber declined an invitation to perform at Usher’s Super Bowl LVIII halftime show. Usher later addressed the decision on The Breakfast Club, explaining that Bieber wanted to “tell a different story” at that point in his career but insisted “no love lost.”
The following year, Bieber unfollowed Usher on Instagram along with several former management team members, fueling speculation of a rift.
Sources close to Bieber have suggested the pop star is making an effort to distance himself from figures associated with his past.
This context has led some observers to connect the tension to the broader fallout surrounding Sean “Diddy” Combs, who mentored both Usher and Bieber as young artists, following his conviction last year on sex trafficking charges.
However, no direct link between the Combs case and Sunday’s altercation has been confirmed.
Neither Bieber nor Usher has publicly addressed the reported incident. Representatives for both artists, as well as for Beyoncé and Jay-Z, have not responded to requests for comment.
