The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has hosted an Eid-el-Fitr luncheon for troops of Sector 1, Operation Fansan Yamma, under the 1 Division Area of Responsibility, reaffirming his commitment to their welfare and operational effectiveness.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was held on Saturday at Sub-Sector 5 Forward Operating Base, DICON Agundu in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The event was aimed at boosting the morale of frontline personnel and strengthening unity among troops.
The COAS was represented by the Commander, Corps of Signals, Maj.-Gen. M.T. Abdullahi. Shaibu congratulated Muslim personnel and their families on the successful completion of Ramadan, noting that the virtues of sacrifice, discipline and devotion resonate strongly with military values.
Shaibu described the coincidence of the Ramadan fast and the Christian Lenten season as a rare and symbolic moment, stressing that the shared experience of sacrifice by both Muslim and Christian personnel had further strengthened unity within the Nigerian Army.
He reiterated that troops’ welfare remained a top priority under his command philosophy, assuring personnel of continued efforts to improve their living conditions, enhance professional development and provide adequate support systems for soldiers and their families.
The Army chief also emphasised that national security was a collective responsibility, commending the synergy between the Nigerian Army, other security agencies and law-abiding citizens in addressing security challenges.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strategic leadership and sustained support to the Armed Forces.
Earlier, the Commander of Sub-Sector 5, Navy Captain Patrick Ali, said the luncheon was a longstanding tradition designed to promote esprit de corps and foster stronger bonds among personnel in the joint operations area.
Ali noted that the informal setting provided an opportunity for troops to interact, reflect on their shared mission and reinforce the unity required for effective service delivery.
NAN reports that the event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Magaji Danjuma.
Others were the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division and Commander Sector 1, Operation Fansan Yamma, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, and heads of military formations, local government officials and other stakeholders.
The luncheon featured entertainment, presentation of souvenirs and group photographs, marking a successful celebration of Eid and military camaraderie.
