Nigeria’s D’Tigress retain 8th spot in latest FIBA rankings

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have maintained their impressive 8th position in the latest global rankings released by FIBA.

The team, under the leadership of head coach Rena Wakama, accumulated a total of 700.3 ranking points.

This consistent performance highlights their steady progress and growing reputation on the international basketball stage.

D’Tigress remain the highest-ranked team in Africa and are still the only African side among the top 10 teams in the world.

This achievement further reinforces their dominance on the continent and their ability to compete with some of the best teams globally.

Recently, the team participated in the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament held in Lyon,

France. During the competition, they played five matches, securing two victories while suffering three defeats.

Despite the mixed results, their performance was strong enough to help them retain their position in the rankings.

At the top of the rankings, the United States continues to hold the number one spot, maintaining their long-standing dominance in women’s basketball.

France has climbed to second place after overtaking Australia, who dropped to third position. China and Belgium complete the top five teams in the latest standings.
