2027 PDP: Makinde speaks on ‘surrendering’ to Wike’s faction

“I came to the public domain to say that I was in a meeting with Wike and President Tinubu, and Wike promised to hold PDP for the president towards 2027,” he said.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has dismissed suggestions that his political camp has surrendered to the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Nyesom Wike.
Makinde spoke while addressing journalists in a closed-door meeting with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and Senator Seriake Dickson, in Bauchi.
Responding to questions on whether his group had aligned with Wike’s camp, Makinde said he had already made his position clear publicly, referencing a meeting involving Wike and President Bola Tinubu.
“I came to the public domain to say that I was in a meeting with Wike and President Tinubu, and Wike promised to hold PDP for the president towards 2027,” he said.
He added that members of Wike’s camp are effectively backing Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“Anyone with Wike’s group is supporting President Tinubu in 2027. We leave it for Nigerians to judge. We are not begrudging them for supporting President Tinubu, but go to them if you want to support them,” he stated.
The governor, however, insisted that his own camp remains independent, stressing that political strength does not rest solely on institutional backing.
“They have the Federal Government, the judiciary, and INEC behind them, but we have the people behind us,” Makinde declared.
