The Okuokpellagbe of Okpella Kingdom, Michael Eshioronoya Olorunfemi Sado, has stressed the need for young people to pursue both secular and religious education as a pathway to personal development and societal advancement.

The monarch made the call at the 7th Annual Qur’an Recitation Competition held at FUTAC Schools, Imiagwuese, in honour of his predecessor, the late Alhaji A.Y.E. Dirisu.

The event drew students, Islamic scholars, parents and community leaders from Okpella and neighbouring communities, reflecting its growing role as a platform for religious learning and youth development in Etsako East Local Government Area.

Addressing participants, the traditional ruler encouraged youths to remain dedicated to acquiring knowledge in both Islamic and formal education systems.

According to him, the competition serves as a reminder of shared values and the importance of preserving the legacy of past leaders.

He noted that education, in all its forms, remains vital for shaping responsible individuals and building a progressive society.

The monarch also commended the organisers for sustaining the annual event, describing it as a fitting tribute to the late Dirisu, whose commitment to education and piety continues to inspire the community.

Religious leaders and education stakeholders at the event called for greater support for Islamic education and improved welfare for young scholars in the area.

Participants competed in various categories of Qur’anic recitation, demonstrating discipline and mastery of the Holy Qur’an, with winners receiving prizes and recognition.

The event also highlighted the spirit of peaceful coexistence in Okpella, as people from diverse backgrounds gathered in unity.
