Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has appealed to Nigerians to actively participate in efforts to curb insecurity across the country.
The governor made the call on Sunday while receiving Alhaji Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar III, the Emir of Gombe, who paid a Sallah homage visit at the Government House in Gombe.
“Peace is key to societal development,” Yahaya emphasised, urging citizens to play a part in fostering peace and addressing security challenges nationwide.
He highlighted the importance of public cooperation with security agencies, noting that community support is vital for effective intelligence gathering.
“Security should not be left to agencies or the government alone. It is a collective responsibility of all citizens,” he said.
Speaking on the recent bandit attacks in communities in Bauchi State, the governor expressed concern over the displacement of people who have sought refuge in Gombe.
Yahaya also lauded residents of Gombe for promoting peaceful coexistence, which he said has allowed his administration to implement numerous projects for the benefit of the populace. “I urge residents to maintain peace, strengthen vigilance, and support all efforts to make the state secure for everyone,” he added.
Responding, Emir Shehu-Abubakar called on the public to uphold the prevailing harmony in Gombe State, stressing that the community remains united despite its diverse ethnic and religious composition.
The Emir commended Governor Yahaya for delivering on his campaign promises through people-focused initiatives, describing his governance as attentive to the welfare of residents.
