Dangote Petroleum Refinery has exported 456,000 tonnes of fuel to different African countries using 12 shipments.

The fuel, mainly petrol (PMS), was sent to countries like Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tanzania, Ghana, and Togo. International traders bought the fuel and handled delivery from Nigeria.

This comes after the refinery reached its full production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day in February.

Experts say this shows the refinery can meet Nigeria’s fuel needs and still supply other African countries. This marks a big change, as Nigeria is moving from importing fuel to exporting it.

The refinery is also producing higher-quality fuel (Euro 5 standard), which is better than what many African countries have used in the past.

There is now more demand for fuel from the refinery because some countries are facing supply problems due to conflicts in the Middle East. Many African governments are looking for new and reliable fuel sources to improve energy security.

About 75% of the refinery’s fuel is kept for Nigeria, while the rest is exported. South Africa is also reportedly in talks with Nigeria for a one-year fuel supply deal.

In the past, many African countries depended heavily on fuel imports from the Middle East. But with this refinery, Africa may rely more on local supply.

The refinery reaching full capacity is a major achievement. It is expected to improve fuel availability, reduce transport costs, and help stabilize prices across Africa.
