Troops of Operation MESA have arrested a suspect allegedly found in possession of explosives in Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The arrest followed intelligence reports that a civilian was moving around the Agric area with suspected hand grenades during an event on Saturday evening.
According to security sources, troops were deployed to the location at about 7:45 p.m. on March 21. The suspect was apprehended without incident after operatives secured the area and recovered items believed to be explosives.
A counter-insurgency and security expert, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.
Sources said the suspect was found with items suspected to be 36 hand grenades. He is reported to be a native of Osun State but resident in Ikorodu.
The suspect is currently in custody, while the recovered items are yet to be fully verified as investigations continue.
Security officials also briefed event organisers and participants, urging them to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
The suspect and the recovered materials have been handed over to the military for further investigation.
